Hidden among the porcelain fox hounds and Burberry tablecloths on sale at eBay.be this week was an unusual item: 'For Sale: Belgium, a Kingdom in three parts ... free premium: the king and his court (costs not included).'

The ad - thought to be the first attempt to sell Belgium via eBay - was posted by one disgruntled Belgian in protest at his country's political crisis. This reached its 100-day landmark on Tuesday, with no end in sight to the squabbling between Flemish and Walloon politicians.

'I wanted to attract attention,' said Gerrit Six, the teacher and former journalist who posted the ad.
'You almost have to throw a rock through a window to get attention for Belgium.'

The Ankh-Morpork Post Office is running like . . . well, not at all like a government office.

The mail is delivered promptly; meetings start and end on time; five out of six letters relegated to the Blind Letter Office ultimately wend their way to the correct addresses. Postmaster General Moist von Lipwig, former arch-swindler and confidence man, has exceeded all expectations—including his own.
So it's somewhat disconcerting when Lord Vetinari summons Moist to the palace and asks, "Tell me, Mr. Lipwig, would you like to make some real money?"

Vetinari isn't talking about wages, of course. He's referring, rather, to the Royal Mint of Ankh-Morpork, a venerable institution that has run for centuries on the hereditary employment of the Men of the Sheds and their loyal outworkers, who do make money in their spare time. Unfortunately, it costs more than a penny to make a penny, so the whole process seems somewhat counterintuitive.

Next door, at the Royal Bank, the Glooper, an "analogy machine," has scientifically established that one never has quite as much money at the end of the week as one thinks one should, and the bank's chairman, one elderly Topsy (née Turvy) Lavish, keeps two loaded crossbows at her desk.
Oh, and the chief clerk is probably a vampire.

But before Moist has time to fully consider Vetinari's question, fate answers it for him. Now he's not only making money, but enemies too; he's got to spring a prisoner from jail, break into his own bank vault, stop the new manager from licking his face, and, above all, find out where all the gold has gone—otherwise, his life in banking, while very exciting, is going to be really, really short. . . .

Larry Craig toilet 'tourist site'

I didn't really want to cover this story when it broke June this year because it just pushes too many buttons on both sides of the Gay fence .... but if even the BBC are publishing it front page then who am I to ignore it?

Of course it says more about the General American Public than about Larry Craig.

The Minneapolis airport toilet where US senator Larry Craig was arrested for allegedly soliciting gay sex is now attracting tourists, say airport staff.

"People are taking pictures," Karen Evans, an information officer at Minneapolis-St Paul international airport, told Associated Press.

Mr Craig, a Republican from Idaho, pleaded guilty in August to disorderly conduct over the toilet incident.
He now says the plea was a mistake and is trying to have it withdrawn.
Depending on the outcome of the case, Mr Craig may reverse his earlier decision to resign by the end of September.
Mr Craig was arrested on 11 June by an undercover airport police officer.

Now it seems that tourists passing through the airport cannot resist the temptation to have a look at the scene.

"We had to just stop and check out the bathroom," said Sally Westby of Minneapolis, on her way to Guatemala with her husband Jon.
"In fact, it's Jon's second time - he was here last week already."

Royal Zino, who works at the shoeshine shop next to the public lavatory, said "it's been crazy".
"People have been going inside, taking pictures of the stall, taking pictures outside the bathroom door."

The politician, who has a record of hostility to gay rights and is a married father-of-three, insists he is not homosexual.
He says police misconstrued his actions at the airport.

Microsoft loses anti-trust appeal

Microsoft's market dominance alarms regulators.

The European Court of First Instance has dismissed Microsoft's appeal in its long-running competition dispute with the European Commission.
The court upheld the ruling that Microsoft had abused its dominant market position.
A probe concluded in 2004 that Microsoft was guilty of freezing out rivals in server software and products such as media players.
It was ordered to change its business and fined 497m euros.

Microsoft has two months to appeal at the European Court of Justice.

Depression - WHO report

Depression is a more disabling condition than angina, arthritis, asthma and diabetes, World Health Organization research shows.
And those with depression plus a chronic illness, such as diabetes, fare particularly badly, the study of more than 245,000 people suggests.
Better treatment for depression would improve people's overall health, the researchers concluded in the Lancet.

Dr Somnath Chatterji and colleagues asked people from 60 countries taking part in the World Health Survey a variety of questions about their health, such as how they sleep, how much pain they have, and whether they have any problems with memory or concentration.

After taking into account factors such as poverty and other health conditions, the researchers found that depression had the largest effect on worsening health.
And people with depression who also had one or more chronic diseases had the worst health scores of all the diseases looked at or combinations of diseases.

Dr Somnath Chatterji said: "The co-morbid state of depression incrementally worsens health compared with depression alone, with any of the chronic diseases alone, and with any combination of chronic diseases without depression.

Marcus Roberts, head of policy at mental health charity Mind, said the impact of depression could be devastating on relationships, finances and physical health.
"The treatment of depression must be given equal footing to the treatment of other conditions.
"While treatments for most physical health problems are readily accessible, mental health treatments such as talking therapies are limited, with some patients waiting months or even years for their first appointment with a therapist."
He added that mental health was often overlooked in those with chronic health problems, as doctors focused on the physical symptoms.

New HIV Drug Merits Quick Approval

(Washington) An experimental HIV drug from Merck & Co. Inc. should be quickly approved for use by patients running out of treatment options, federal advisers recommended Wednesday.

The panel of outside experts agreed unanimously that available data support accelerated approval of Isentress, also known as raltegravir, by the Food and Drug Administration.

If approved, Isentress would be the first in a new class of anti-retroviral drugs called integrase inhibitors.

The Merck drug targets integrase, one of three enzymes used by the virus to replicate and infect cells. The FDA previously has approved drugs that target the two other enzymes, protease and reverse transcriptase.

Isentress is meant to be used as part of a "cocktail" of drugs to fight HIV in patients who have developed a resistance to older medications.

Last month, the FDA approved another novel HIV drug, Pfizer Inc.'s Selzentry. That drug is the first that works by blocking a crucial doorway, called the CCR5 receptor, that HIV often uses to enter white blood cells.

Where this obsession with religion has come from that has engulfed me the last few weeks I have no idea

The Last Days? The Reckoning? The Rapture?

I doubt it very strongly.

What I do see is an enormous threat from the US through African, mainly Kenyan, Churches to restore power to the Protestant Church in the world.

The Pope has been working his side of the pond for years, using the last Heavenly Father as a front for the RC's money making tactics.

The Evangelicals have been waiting, plotting, preparing for this for years.

Multi-Nationals, or more correctly Multi-Globals are deeply threatened by consumer behaviour at the moment and have left themselves wide open to attack and abuse.

And, yes, I sound paranoid.

But when I see that in what was the most liberal country in the world, the Netherlands, that politicians dare to speak out against dirty homosexuals and their horrible sin, then that must be writing on the wall.

There´s a religious backlash coming and we must be aware of it at least.

And who is ´we´?

I´m afraid that the target group is much broader than gays alone. Gay males are always one of the guaranteed ´red buttons´ in elections and such ..... but there are more ....´abortion´, ´marriage´, ´immigration´, ´sex offenders´, ´sex education´, ´healthcare´ etc .....

For example ....Just how long will it take for the Government to decide who is responsible for their own diseases and present the treatment bill to the patient?

De ChristenUnie heeft afstand genomen van het opinieartikel over homoseksualiteit van Yvette Lont, raadslid voor de ChristenUnie in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, dat dinsdag in het Nederlands Dagblad heeft gestaan.

Lont schreef: ,"God haat deze zonde en het verdient de 'geestelijke dood'.''

Volgens haar is er alleen genade voor homo's als ze met iemand van het andere geslacht trouwen of anders celibatair leven. Ze schreef dat God de zonde van homoseksualiteit haat en haalde teksten uit de Bijbelboeken Leviticus en Romeinen aan, waarin staat dat God homoseksualiteit ,,een gruwel'' vindt en ,,schandelijk''.

Lont heeft gisteren in een brief aan homobelangenorganisatie COC, homobeweging Embrace Pink en de Gay Krant haar excuses aangeboden. Ze schrijft dat het nooit haar bedoeling is geweest mensen te kwetsen en dat ze het opinieartikel niet als politica schreef, maar als voorganger van een evangelische gemeente. Ze schrijft dat ze het daarom niet als politica had moeten ondertekenen.

De ChristenUnie, die afstand nam van het stuk, heeft gisteren in een schriftelijke verklaring laten weten dat ze de uitleg van Lont accepteert.

Het artikel heeft voor veel beroering gezorgd. Homobeweging Embrace Pink schreef een boze brief aan Yvette Lont, waarin onder meer stond dat ze de passages over naastenliefde in de Bijbel blijkbaar niet goed heeft gelezen. Embrace Pink riep mensen op om protestmails aan Lont te sturen. Ook COC-voorzitter Frank van Dalen maakte zich boos over het artikel en de Gay Krant berichtte erover.

Andere weg voor homo's

In de krant van 23 augustus las ik met verbazing enige standpunten van dr. J. Hoek. Met name het standpunt dat 'overspel zondiger is dan homoseksualiteit', waarvoor hij bijbelse gronden meent te kunnen aanvoeren, kon ik niet voorbij laten gaan zonder hierop te reageren.

De Protestantse Kerk in Nederland beweegt zich volgens prof. Hoek als het gaat om homoseksualiteit tussen gedogen en goedkeuren. Ze is op zoek naar duidelijke richtlijnen en beleidskeuzes hierin.

Hij geeft aan dat sommige kerken de homo's hebben afgewezen en er niet goed mee zijn omgegaan.

Evangelisten hebben goedkope en snelle genezingen geboden.

Ik zou zeggen: Gelukkig maar!

Genezing was nodig voor een bepaalde groep homoseksuelen die uit lust en losbandigheid deze seksuele handelingen hebben verricht en zich van deze wandel hebben bekeerd.

Er zijn er velen die nu getrouwd zijn, kinderen hebben en in de dienst van de Heer staan.

Anderen zullen ervoor kunnen kiezen vanwege hun geaardheid of niet volgroeide of verkeerde genitaliën, geboren in een verkeerd lichaam etc, celibatair te leven, zoals ook de eunuch volgens de Bijbel.

Hebben deze mensen gevoelens en kunnen ze liefhebben? Ja, maar ze geven hun leven als een levend offer en in dienst van de Heer en kiezen ervoor als 'Paulus' verder te leven.

Laten wij niet met de wereldgeesten meegaan. Laten wij niet dwalen en de homoseksuele leefwijze goed praten 'omdat het toch liefde is', maar weten wat het Woord van God zegt. De liefde heft Gods gebod niet op, maar is juist de vervulling van de wet (Romeinen 13:10b). In Matteüs 19:4: ,,Hebt gij niet gelezen, dat de Schepper hen in den beginne als man en vrouw heeft gemaakt?' Dat is van den beginne Gods doel en intentie geweest. Dat is het beeld van Christus en zijn gemeente. Bruidegom en bruid. Niet bruidegom en bruidegom.

Als we de Bijbel lezen is het door heel het boek heen duidelijk dat homoseksueel gedrag wordt afgewezen. Leviticus 18:22: ,,En gij zult geen gemeenschap hebben met een die van het mannelijk geslacht is, zoals men gemeenschap heeft met een vrouw, een gruwel is het!''

Zouden ze toen ook van elkaar gehouden hebben?' Ongetwijfeld en toch keurt de Heer dit af.

Lees Romeinen 1:26: Onder het kopje 'Schuld der heidenen en hun straf': ,,Daarom heeft God hen in hun hartstochten overgegeven aan schandelijk lusten, want hun vrouwen hebben de natuurlijke omgang vervangen door de tegen natuurlijke. 27: Eveneens hebben de mannen de natuurlijke omvang met de vrouw opgegeven, en zijn in wellust voor elkaar ontbrand. 28: En daar zij verwerpelijk achten God te erkennen, heeft God hen overgegeven aan een verwerpelijk denken om te doen wat niet betaamt. 29: vervuld van allerlei onrechtvaardigheid, boosheid, hebzucht en slechtheid, vol nijd, moord, twist, list en kwaadaardigheid; oorblazers, lasteraars, haters van God, verwatenen, overmoedigen, grootsprekers, vindingrijk in het kwaad, hun eigen ouders ongehoorzaam; onverstandig; onbestendig, zonder hart of barmhartigheid.''

Dat is nogal wat! Ik kan niet zien dat overspel in het huwelijk een 'zwaardere' zonde is dan wat hier over homoseksualiteit geschreven staat. Laten wij niet zomaar proefballonnen opgooien omdat het onderwerp een hype is in de wereld. Dat het debat in christelijke kringen wordt gevoerd, is prima, maar laten we met zuivere argumenten komen.

Ja, God haat deze zonde, en het verdient de 'geestelijke' dood. Maar wij leven in een tijd van genade, en zullen genade moeten schenken aan degene die van zijn homofiele pad wenst af te stappen. Wij kunnen hen bereiken door hen lief te hebben en hen over onze Heer te vertellen. Dan horen ze ook dat er ook een andere weg is. Een weg ten eeuwig leven.
