All the news that's worth the paper its written on

My god, what a week ....

Enjoyable, exhilarating, exciting and way over the top on my energy level. Sensible decision to stay in last night and watch CSI Vegas, twice.

So what is it about TV that lulls the active brain cells into rest, or coma depending on which report you are reading at the time. Although if you watch TV regularly you aren't going to be doing much reading.

I've just had a 2 week trial thing from 'Het Parool' newspaper. To be honest I've read two of them in the whole 2 weeks. It just doesn't enter into my brain to wait around until lunch time to get the news. I just log on and get what I need from the Web.

Or to be more exact, I get my selection from what is offered to me.

More info on this on Ted by Alissa Miller.
Spend 4 minutes listening to her and your ideas on how much of the world you really know about may change ....

Darkness and Death

"You either die young a hero, or live too long and become the villain"
Harvey Dent

“As we looked through the comics, there was this fascinating idea that Batman’s presence in Gotham actually attracts criminals to Gotham, attracts lunacy,” he said. “When you’re dealing with questionable notions like people taking the law into their own hands, you have to really ask, where does that lead? That’s what makes the character so dark, because he expresses a vengeful desire.”

Kate Bush - Running up that Hill

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me we won't matter don't we

You
Its you and me
Its you and me won't be unhappy

Come on baby
oh come on darlin'
let me steal this moment from you now
come on angel
come on, come on darlin'
let's exchange the experience

If I only could
make a deal with god
and get him to swap our places

Be running up that road
be running op that hill
with no problems

An Indecent Proposal

Dottie here my dears with another distressing page out of my otherwise humdrum Mills and Boon novel of a life .....

I love being a 'Hyves'er, but I am having difficulty wrapping the few brain cells that I didn't kill off in the seventies around the intricacies of 'My Space'.

So its hardly surprising I suppose that some people seem to get the wrong idea when they read my profile ....

Well, that's the only way I can explain the fact that at least once a day I get a very serious proposal of marriage from an broad assortment of straight men. It really doesn't seem to worry them that by marrying me they might possibly be biting off more than they can chew (as it were) ....

Ah well. I'll keep the mail addresses just in case ....

Keep cool my lovelies,
Dottie

It's Official

Americans rank last in a new National Geographic-sponsored survey released Wednesday that compare environmental consumption habits in 14 countries.

Americans were least likely to choose the greener option in three out of four categories -- housing, transportation and consumer goods-- according to the assessment. In the fourth category, food, Americans ranked ahead of Japanese consumers, who eat more meat and seafood.

The rankings, called "Greendex," are the first to compare the lifestyles and behaviors of consumers in multiple countries, according to the National Geographic Society.

Ms Dorothy 'Dottie' Glamour gets it off her chest

Dear all,

Yes, its that time again, and I'm livid, absolutely livid .....

There I am on the Zeedijk during Koninginnedag giving joy and laughter (and a well needed dress sense) to the masses - and what happens?

I'm manhandled, or to be more accurate, womanhandled!

I mean, honestly, put a dress on and the whole of womankind thinks you are public property! I was pushed, groped and fondled all afternoon. There was worse too, I had small children thrust into my arms with the demand to have my picture taken with them. If those poor misguided parents only knew .....

Listen my dears, on such a day drunken homosexual men I can handle, lord knows I've had the practice, but this?

Anyway, here's a picture of yours truly just before one of above mentioned women tried to rip me out of the arms of dear sweet Dave.

See you soon dears,
Dottie

ps: Just to remind certain people (you know who you are), its 'Glamour' as in 'L'amour' and not 'Glammer' as in 'hammer' ....

Memorial Day

Immediately following the end of the Second World War there were calls to establish a memorial to commemorate the gay men and women who lost their lives in the war. However, all efforts to establish a monument failed. It took until the 1980’s, almost 40 years after the war, before the time was ripe. It wasn't until then that thorough research into the persecution of homosexuals in the Second World War was properly conducted.

Homosexuals were persecuted and oppressed under the Hitler regime. Gay men and women simply did not fit into the concept of a strong Aryan nation and they consequently had to be eliminated. Gay men who were arrested and deported to concentration camps were issued a "branding mark" in the form of a pink triangle.
They were forced to wear this symbol on the upper left corner of their jackets and on their right trouser legs. These triangles were two to three centimetres larger than the triangles worn by the other prisoners so that everyone could see from a distance that the wearer was a homosexual man.

The Homomonument makes a strong statement that history must not be repeated: "Never again".

The Homomonument calls for vigilance.

The Homomonument does not, however, only commemorate the victims of the Second World War. It commemorates all homosexual men and women who have been, or are still being, persecuted and murdered for their sexual orientation.

The Homomonument honours these brave gay men and women.

Online Sexual Health

What are some new ways in which we can engage gay men online with sexual health info?

A few options come to mind;

· Have new conversations that have other possible endings other than ‘use a condom’ and become better risk reduction educators.

· Work with online adult venues of all types and learn from their marketing experiences with their users.

· Drop the drama and the demands in promotions.

Slogans that tell us what we must do or make threats of death and destruction go unheeded by most gay men.

· Get real, meaning; create discussion by using real stories from real people.

· Drop the absolutes, the black and white imagery of statements like ‘safe only’ simply do not translate as genuine in our grey world.

· Acknowledge what ‘is so’ in our community and deal with the realities rather than continually try to change them or remake them in an image we feel is ‘right’ or ‘better’.

Rather than fight against online sex venues work with them. There is a great opportunity in these venues to help create a tighter/healthier gay community. Fighting sex positive venues will not only get us locked out but will further impede education and interventions by continuing to damage the image of sexual health professionals in the viewpoint of gay men. When a sex positive venue is closed or regulated to the point where it is rendered useless, what happens to its members? Are there any behavioral changes when a venue is closed? Is anyone educated by an action or by efforts in this direction? NO - members simply find another place to go, usually one that will be even harder to find and deal with. The users of the closed venue are further shamed by being told they are ‘wrong’ and not wanted in society, and we as health care professionals are again left out of their conversations and have further damaged our relationship with gay men..

· Do less talking and do more listening.

Get to know what sexual trends gay men are starting and following. Watch what people are doing in the videos that they post on websites such as Xtube.com and Pornotube.com, and observe the pages created within sexual networks for young gay men like Justguys.net and DList.com . Knowing what trends are current allows health care professionals to provide information that is relevant and appropriate to the audience.
